KSH: Hungary’s construction sector output up 8% in January

Output of construction sector in Hungary increased by a year-on-year 8% in January, following a drop of a 2.2% in the previous month, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported today.

According to KSH, output of the two main constructions groups increased – buildings by 6.7% and civil engineering works by 10.1% – in year-on-year terms. KSH added that the significant growth in the construction of civil engineering works, as in previous months, was related to road construction and railway reconstruction works as well as public utility projects running in several parts of the country.

Output rose by 7.4% in the division of specialized construction works, accounting for more than 40% of construction output. Meanwhile, the volume of new contracts was 28.7% lower. The volume of new contracts dropped by 3.9% in the construction of buildings and fell by 42.1% in the construction of civil engineering works compared to January 2014.
