The number of guest nights spent in accommodation establishments in Hungary in August increased by 5.3%, compared with August a year ago, and the gross revenues of accommodation establishments – at current prices – rose by 14%, in that period, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today.

The number of guest nights spent by international and domestic tourists in Hungary saw an increase of 5.7% and 4.9%, respectively, in August in year-on-year terms, KSH said today.

The number of international tourist arrivals increased by 7.3%, while the number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 6.8%, KSH said. Room occupancy in hotels rose by an average of 3.1 percentage points, to 71%, in year-on-year terms.

The total gross revenue of accommodation establishments, which grew by 14% to HUF 46 bln, included a 17% increase in accommodation fee revenues, to HUF 29 bln; a 9% increase in catering revenues to HUF 8 bln; and a 7.8% increase in other revenues, HUF 9 bln, KSH said.

KSH added that Széchenyi Recreation (SZÉP) Card holders spent 5.4% more using the card. In the beginning of June it was reported that the National Economy Ministry is considering modifications to SZÉP cards, as Hungarian hotels are lobbying for restrictions on the types of catering establishments where the card may be used.
