KSH: Construction permits up, newly built homes down

Although the number of construction permits issued for residential dwellings was up 30%, to 12,515 in 2015, as compared to the previous year, the number of dwellings that were actually built was down 9% to 7,612, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today.

The number of dwellings constructed was down 4% in Budapest, while the number of residential construction permits issued in the capital saw a 73% increase, KSH said. 

The proportion of dwellings built by individuals remained unchanged at 59% and dwellings built by enterprises was 39%, while 55% of homes were built for own use and 41% for sale, KSH said.

KSH data show that the average floor-area of homes put to use was 101 sqm, the same as one year earlier.
