KSH: Agricultural producer prices up 5.2% in December

Hungary’s agricultural producer prices were up 5.2% in December, as compared to the same period a year earlier, the increase being consistent with a 12.6% rise in the price of crop products, while the price of live animals and animal products decreased by 6%, according to a report published today by Hungaryʼs Central Statistical Office (KSH).

In year-on-year terms, the price of cereals was up 11%, primarily due to a 21% increase in the price of corn, while the price of wheat was cut by 2.2%, KSH said. The price of potatoes was up by 73% compared to the low base in December 2014, however, the increase was only 5.7% compared to the price in December 2013, KSH noted.

The producer price level of live animals dropped 2.8% and that of animal products by 13%, in year-on-year terms, KSH said. The procurement price of pigs for slaughter decreased further, to HUF 313/kg in December 2015, the lowest price in the past four years, KSH added.

For all of last year, agricultural producer prices were up 0.4%, within which the price of crop products increased by 6.4% and the price of live animals and animal products dropped by 8.4%, KSH said.

Cereals prices were up 3.1% in 2015 as compared to the previous year, within which the price of wheat remained almost unchanged and the price of corn rose by 6.2%. The price of potatoes was 1% lower than a year earlier. The price of fruit increased by 19%, within which the price of apples was up by 27% and that of grapes by 10%, KSH said, adding that the price of pigs for slaughter fell by 11% and the producer price of milk by 20%.
