Industrial production up 9.4% in December

Industrial output in Hungary rose 9.4% in December, as compared to the same month of the previous year, with the index adjusted for working days rising 6.9% in December and output growing by 7.5% year-on-year, according to a first release of data issued by Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) today.

According to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices, the volume of industrial production edged down 0.7% month-on-month in December, KSH reported. In year-on-year terms, industrial production increased by 9.4% in December.

The volume of industrial export sales increased by 13.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. Industrial domestic sales rose by 1.3%, within this the domestic sales of manufacturing were 4.3% higher year-on-year in December, according to KSH.

The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having the second greatest weight, rose year-on-year in December by 6.1%, due to an increase in both domestic and export sales.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, ranked third in manufacturing, increased by 16.6% in December as compared to the same month of the previous year, KSH noted.

After several months of decline, the manufacture of coke, and refined petroleum products having smaller weight increased significantly by 17.3%, primarily due to the low base effect.
