Hungary’s railway, bus service could receive joint management

Tourism

The establishment of a combined management company for state-owned railway company MÁV and bus company Volán will be proposed by Ministerial Commissioner for Public Transportation Dávid Vitézy, Hungarian daily Magyar Idők reported today.

Vitézy reportedly said that the complete integration of the two bodies would be too costly and time-consuming but that management functions could be unified. According to the daily, the proposed management company would be in charge of creating a unified timetable, fee, and ticket and information system for passengers, but it would commission the separate services of the two bodies.

The commissioner said the two state companies currently operate competing services while there is a justified demand for them to cooperate when it comes to ticket purchases and arranging timetables.
