Hungary to join European Space Agency

Initiatives

Hungary will soon join the European Space Agency (ESA), Hungarian business daily Napi Gazdaság said today. According to the newspaper, a government decree on membership in the association could be published in days.

Full membership in the association would grant Hungarian space industry companies access to funding and create more inroads to markets, National Development Ministry deputy state secretary Károly Balázs Solymár was reported as saying.

According to Sándor Frey, who is a deputy chief of the Hungarian Astronautics Association, the space industry has been one of the few industries that did not decline during the economic crisis of 2008.
