Hungary may join OECD’s Development Assistance Committee
Following two days of negotiations recently, Hungary could be granted membership of the OECDʼs Development Assistance Committee, said István Mikola, state secretary of the foreign ministry, yesterday after talks with the committeeʼs delegation in Budapest, according to reports.
The state secretary noted that of the Visegrad Four countries – Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia – only Hungary is not yet a member of the committee.
It is important that Hungary should also become a member of the committee, delegation head Karen Jorgensen was reported as saying, as the country is a strong supporter of development policy issues.
According to the OECD website, the committee exists to “promote development cooperation and other policies so as to contribute to sustainable development, including pro-poor economic growth, poverty reduction, improvement of living standards in developing countries, and a future in which no country will depend on aid”.
