Gov’t to continue talks on minimum wage
Having failed to agree on the minimum wage rise planned for next year, the Hungarian government and its partners are expected to continue negotiations next week, economy minister Mihály Varga said today, as reported by Hungarian news agency MTI.
Talks are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, the minister said after a meeting of the VKF, a broad forum of representatives from the private sector and the government, MTI added. The government has reportedly been mulling a 15% raise in the minimum wage of unskilled workers for next year and a further 8% raise in 2018.
In reaction to the plans, György Vámos of the Hungarian Trade Association told Hungarian daily Világgazdaság today that smaller stores could be forced to close due to the wage raise.
