Foreign tourism up, domestic tourism down in May, y-o-y

The number of nights spent by international tourists in Hungary were up by 2.2%, while the number of nights spent by domestic tourists dropped by 0.4% in May as compared to the same period month a year earlier, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today in first release of data. 

The gross revenues – calculated at current prices – of accommodation establishments reportedly rose by 5.1%. 

The number of international tourist arrivals rose by 3.3% and the total number of domestic guests in hotels decreased by 1.1%, data by KSH show. Room occupancy in hotels increased by 0.9 percentage point to 56.7%.

The total gross revenue of accommodation establishments was 5.1% higher, within which accommodation fee revenues were up by 6.5%, catering revenues grew by 2.1% and other revenues increased by 4.1%.

In the period of January-May accommodation establishments registered a total of 8.4 million tourism nights, which is 5.4% more guest nights overall as compared to the same period a year earlier. KSH data show that foreign guests spent 4.8% more nights here, while domestic guests spent 6.1% more tourism nights in accommodation establishments in January-May.
