Flour prices to climb 10%

EU

Hungarian mills are expected to raise the price of flour by about 10%, Hungarian daily Népszabadság reported today.

Farmers have not signed contracts with bakers yet because they expect a price rise within a couple of months, which Grain Association head Zsófia Pótsa told the paper. The price of mill wheat has already gone up by 10 % on the commodities exchange, as rain cut the harvest.

Bakers reported earlier they expected bread prices to climb due to the projected increase in the price of the flour.

However National Commerce Association chief György Vámos said  ingredients accounted for just a small part in the consumer price of baked goods. The rise in flour price would not be enough to justify bread getting more expensive, he said.
