Fewer back taxes owed by Hungarians

The amount of back taxes private Hungarian individuals and businesses in the country owed the government at the end of March was HUF 2.46 trillion, some 14% less compared to a year earlier, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
Based on data by feketelista.hu, which translates as “blacklist”, the news agency noted that active companies owed HUF 242 billion, while the amount owed by companies no longer in operation was HUF 1.803 tln. According to feketelista.hu, private individuals owed a total of HUF 203 bln in back taxes.
Of the approximately 830,000 procedures the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) launched last year to collect HUF 1.345 tln, the authority was able to collect approximately HUF 396 bln.
