Euratom signs off on Hungaryʼs changes to Paks pact

History

The Euratom Supply Agency (ESA) signed a contract on the supply of fuel from Russia for the new reactors to be built at the Paks nuclear power plant, following Hungaryʼs effort to comply with Euratomʼs requests, the EC spokesperson for energy affairs said yesterday, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

"ESA has told us that the supply contract for Paks has been concluded and ESAʼs analysis showed that their requests have been taken into account, notably concerning the duration of the contract and the possibility to diversify the fuel supply," Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said at a press briefing yesterday, adding that this was all the information she was able to make public.

Itkonen also said that the amended supply contract signed by both Hungary and Russia was submitted to ESA on April 7 by the Hungarian authorities in Luxembourg and remains “under commercial confidentiality”. In addition, the Hungarian government has classified this document as secret.
