Land surveying company Geodézia will develop a geographic information system to model extraordinary precipitation in a HUF 919 million project supported by a European Union grant of HUF 509 mln, won jointly with water management company Délvíz, Geodézia told Hungarian news agency MTI.

The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) will also participate in the project.

Geodézia CEO Otto Brunbauer said the resulting technology will be used to optimize rainwater drainage systems through modelling average and extraordinary rainfall using data from a given locality. It will also be suitable for analyzing the impact of planned new investments on the existing infrastructure.

Climate change forecasts show extraordinary precipitation will become more frequent in Hungary, and it is therefore essential to survey and optimize rainwater drainage systems, especially in densely populated areas, Geodézia said in the statement.

Geodézia posted revenues of HUF 3.89 bln in 2015.
