33% of plastic package waste recycled

Some 33% of plastic packaging waste in Hungary is recycled, among the lowest rates in the European Union, the sixth-lowest among member states according to data compiled by EU statistical agency Eurostat.

The rate is under the 41% rate for the EU as a whole. According to the latest available data, rates are lowest in France (27%) and Malta (11%).

Of Hungary's Visegrád Four peers, the plastic packaging recycling rate stands at 61% in the Czech Republic, close to 32% in Poland, and almost 53% in Slovakia.
