Bánai: Defending negotiating position, state is vague on asset sales

A lack of detail on revenue targeted in next year's budget from the sale and utilisation of state assets is intended to improve the state's bargaining position, state secretary Péter Benő Bánai told Parliament's fiscal committee yesterday.

One has to look at the interest of the state on the whole, and that is why information that would hurt the state's negotiating position cannot be put into market players' hands, Banai said. As the revenue is public money, precise information will be made available to a broad public in due time, he added.

Some committee members had noted that the Fiscal Council, National Bank of Hungary and State Audit Agency had all been critical of the lack of details regarding HUF 169 bln in budget revenue from the sale and utilisation of state-owned assets. Bánai said the revenue could come from the sale of assets, real estate, frequencies or concessions. The sales will not include companies of strategic importance to the state, he added.
