Associations turn to Constitutional Court regarding Sunday closures
The alliance of unions Liga and business association VOSZ intend to turn to the Hungarian Constitutional Court regarding the recently introduced Sunday opening hour restrictions for retailers, Liga chairman István Gaskó told a press conference today.
According to the two entities, the Sunday closures law was drafted without an impact study and not allowed sufficient time for preparation.
The chairman said that the court filing is currently being prepared and would be issued to the Constitutional Court only after the ombudsman approves it. The bodies are turning to the court because they believe the legislation discriminates between businesses on the basis of size and ownership.
According to VOSZ chief secretary Ferenc Dávid, "masses" of employees, businesses and shoppers have been negatively affected by the legislation.
Only family-owned business under 200 sqm are exempt from the restrictions.
