Anesthesiologists quit Szent Imre hospital
Most of the anesthesiologists have quit their jobs at Szent Imre hospital, considered one of Hungary’s best facilities, and as a result, many of the hospitalʼs operations have been postponed and waiting lists are expected to grow, Hungarian online daily index.hu reported.
Six of the eight anesthesiologists on staff quit their jobs according to index.hu, which said that even a crew of eight was seldom enough to meet the needs of the hospital. The professionals reportedly said they felt they were unable to carry out their work securely.
Their leaving puts the hospital in a very difficult situation, as their work is crucial in emergency situations as well.
There is a shortage of anesthesiologists not only in Hungary, but across Europe, and index.hu suggested that those remaining will leave the country eventually to work abroad, where they can earn three to four times their Hungarian salaries.
