Agricultural producer prices drop 3.8% in September

Agricultural producer prices in Hungary saw a 3.8% drop in September, compared to the same month a year earlier, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today in a first release of data. The figures showed a 7.3% drop in the prices of crop products and a 2.1% rise in the price of live animals and animal products.

Cereals prices were cut by 9.6%, with both main products in the group falling: wheat by 18% and maize by 3.7%. The price of fruits fell by 5.8% and vegetables by 8.5%.

The price of potatoes was up by 13%. The producer price level of live animals rose by 3.2%, while that of animal products decreased by 0.7%. 

The price of pigs for slaughter was up by 12%, while the price of milk was reduced by 3.8%, KSH reported. The procurement price of milk went up in the last two months, so it increased from HUF 66 per liter in July to HUF 74 per liter by September, KSH added. 

In the January-September period, as compared to the same period of the previous year, agricultural producer prices fell by 0.9%, with the prices of crop products practically unchanged, while those of live animals and animal products dropped by 2.6%, KSH said. The price of vegetables was down by 1.3% and that of fruits by 2.6%, while the price of milk dropped by 10%. The value of the terms of trade in the period (the agricultural producer price index divided by the agricultural input price index) was 100.4%.
