Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air had a net profit of €193 million in the business year ending on March 31, up 5% from a year earlier, Hungarian news agency MTI reported yesterday.

Revenue climbed 16% to €1.42 billion during the period. Supplementary revenues rose 23% to €534 mln and revenue from ticket sales was up 13% at €895 mln.

Passenger numbers increased 21% to 20 million and the load factor of flights improved 1.5 percentage points to 88.2%.

Per unit costs fell 5% to €3.4 per available seat kilometer as operating costs rose 12% to €1.193 bln.

Wizz Air said it plans to increase capacities by 17% while slightly improving its load factor.

József Váradi, Wizz Air CEO, said they currently expect a further significant rise in the group’s net profit for the 2017 financial year to between €245 mln and €255 mln, although this will heavily depend on revenue in the second part of the financial year.
