In the first three-quarters of the year, consolidated revenues of Waberer’s International amounted to EUR 424.3 million, representing “outstanding growth” of EUR 32 mln over the same period in the previous year, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal. Up to the end of September, EBITDA was EUR 58.8 mln, which is EUR 3.7 mln higher than EBITDA achieved in the first three-quarters of last year .

The figures the logistics company announced yesterday in an earnings report show the continuation of an “ongoing success story dating back to several decades”, the company states. Having effectively handled the negative impacts of the refugee crisis, successfully adapted to the market shock caused by Brexit and taken the measures necessary to address restrictive practices emerging in Western Europe, the period was marked by an accelerated growth rate, the report says.

“The company’s positive business development was reinforced in the market through an increasing number of freight commissions: in the first nine months of the year Waberer’s trucks completed 165,000 more commissions than in the corresponding period of last year,” according to the press statement.

Wabererʼs fleet of 3,500 truck-trailers (having been expanded with 100 new units), completed 411 million kilometers on the road in Europe during the first nine months of the year. The loaded ratio of truck-trailers continued to improve over the same period of last year, reaching 91.6% which is above the European industry average. Fuel consumption per 100 kilometers further decreased to an average of 29.9 liters in the first three-quarters of the year, pushed down by the young average age of the fleet and its environmentally friendly engines. Full truckloads have also shown an increase at 538,000 FTLs, representing growth of 5%.

Waberer’s responded to the driver shortage prevalent across Europe with a 15% increase in driver salaries and by introducing additional social and welfare benefits to enhance the firm’s attractiveness as an employer, according to the press statement. By the end of September, the number of Wabererʼs drivers had increased by more than 10% and surpassed 4,800 individuals with a total employee headcount reaching 6,500.

During the third-quarter the company started to operate under a new ownership structure; Mid Europa Partners (MEP), the leading private equity firm in Central and South Eastern Europe, increased its shareholding to 97.1% of the total share capital in July 2016. MEP is committed to further accelerate the firm’s growth, and its key objective is to continue developing Wabererʼs into a major European brand in the international FTL transport market, and a regional leader in warehousing and logistics.
