As the culmination of a network development project, Vodafone Hungary announced it has improved both 3G and 4G indoor coverage in Hungary’s capital, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal today.

“Vodafone has significantly improved its indoor coverage throughout Greater Budapest, offering faster call set-up and better voice quality for 4G users, as well as much better indoor coverage than previously on the 3G network,” said CEO Alexandre Froment-Curtil at a press conference this morning. The conference was organized on the occasion of the official opening of the new Vodafone store in the WestEnd mall, employing 18 people.

The coverage improvement comes after a network development project – started in June and concluded in November – affecting almost 700 sites and 2,000 cells in the Greater Budapest area, as well as in nearby towns such as Érd, Szentendre and Budaörs.

As a result of this investment project, Vodafone customers using 3G/4G phones can now enjoy enhanced voice quality offered by 3G technology in even more indoor locations, in homes and offices alike, Vodafone said in the statement. “Thanks to the deployment of 3G technology on 900 MHz in Budapest, our 3G coverage is excellent, while outdoor coverage stands at 99.8% in indoor locations where we only had full bars of 2G previously,” Vodafone added.

In addition, Vodafone said customers with 4G-enabled devices can experience quicker call set-up and better voice quality. In Budapest Vodafone’s 4G services are close to 100% outdoors, 97% indoors and 99% underground.

During the press conference Vodafone also provided time for the introduction of GreenGo, Hungary’s first electric car-sharing service, which uses in-built Vodafone SIM cards and M2M solutions. The cars available in the system are in constant connection with the business’s head office as well as with satellites and the user application, Vodafone noted.
