Uber faces yet another probe in Hungary

The services of U.S.-based ride sharing firm Uber have come under scrutiny once again by the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV), as risk analysts obtained new information in the course of tax audits and immediately forwarded it to NAVʼs criminal directorate, Hungarian news agency reported this morning
“Financial detectives have launched a new investigation in the Uber matter, based on data unknown until now that could substantially influence the investigation,” NAV told the news agency. NAV said on Saturday that it had rejected a report of financial fraud in the Uber case due to a lack of evidence pointing to any criminal activity, MTI added.
Uberʼs Hungarian operations came under fire after Hungarian taxi drivers demonstrated at Deák Ferenc tér, one of Budapestʼs central junctions, for four days in January, asking the government to shut down Uber. The government said it would change the regulations, and initiated negotiations with the representatives of taxi drivers, but did not invite Uber to take part, according to reports.
