press release

The Hungarian unit of Austrian retail chain Spar is opening stores at three Lukoil gas stations located in Budapest, Diósd and Tatabánya, according to an announcement issued yesterday.

The first store will open in Budapest today while the other two in Diód and Tatabánya will open on December 3. The outlets will offer all the products available at other Spar stores, at supermarket prices, the announcement says.

“Based on customer feedback, there is an increasing demand for quality and good price-to-value services. With the opening of the new stores … we can guarantee Spar prices, to allow our customers to carry out their everyday shopping at gas stations,” Jenő Horvát-Dori, CEO of Normbenz, the operator of Lukoil stations, said.

“At the Lukoil gas station shops … hundreds of products will be stocked on the shelves,” Gabriella Heiszler, CEO of SPAR Magyarország Kereskedelmi Kft. said.

Spar employs approximately 13,000 people in Hungary and currently has 45 units operating at gas stations. These stores are legally entitled to remain open on Sundays despite the Sunday closure law, according to an earlier report.
