Russian Sberbank issued 101.9 million active bank cards by the end of 2014, Rostislav Yanykin, director of the Bank Card and Cash Services Department at Sberbank of Russia, said.

By the end of last year, there were 4.6 million Sberbank credit cards, an annual increase of approximately 20% (2.5 million new cards), and debit cards issued by the bank reached 87.3 million, increasing by 10.2% (more than 8 million) over the year.

The average monthly share of non-cash transactions using Sberbank bank cards in 2014 was 41.9%, while the average monthly share of cash withdrawal operations last year fell by 6.8% as compared to 2013, the bank said. Overall average monthly turnover increased by a year-on-year 35.3%.

“In 2014 Sberbank made considerable additions to its range of contactless payment technology bank cards,” Yanykin said. “Sberbank’s short-term plans include integrating new and popular services into our existing product suite. As usual, these services will be the benchmark for stability and reliability.”
