Report: Gerkens and RTL could sue each other for € 1 mln

Dirk Gerkens, the former CEO of Hungaryʼs largest commercial TV station RTL Klub, now head of leading competitor TV2, could sue RTL for nearly €1 million in damages for the discriminatory way in which he was terminated from his post last March, Hungarian daily Népszabadság reported today.

Gerkens is asking the station to pay the salary owed to him as well as any remaining allowances, amounting to a total of approximately HUF 310 million, the daily said.

According to Népszabadság, RTL has also filed a lawsuit against Gerkens for breach of contract. Additionally, the station has claimed that the former CEO submitted a number of expenses that were not permitted as per his contract, the daily added.

Gerkens was allegedly fired from RTL Klub in March after speculation that RTL Group might replace the CEO if the government agreed to lower the advertising tax. He was appointed CEO of TV2 Group, owned by film commissioner Andrew Vajna, in January.
