Globally, 23% of workers are looking for a job abroad, compared to 15% of Hungarians, according to Boston Consulting Group and profession.hu, according to a report by novekedes.hu.

While 7%of Hungarians were actively looking for work abroad at the time of the 2018 survey, two years later, this figure had risen to 9% and 15% in 2023.

At the same time, the number of people in Hungary who would like to work abroad virtually has also increased in line with international trends. Since the 2020 survey, the number of those who would like to work remotely for a foreign company has risen from 57% to 66% globally and from 60% to 67% in Hungary.

The analysis also shows that the primary motivation for those considering working abroad is financial and economic, as 76% cited this as the top reason, followed by a better quality of life (72%).

In Hungary, students are the most interested in working abroad; a third of public sector workers and a quarter of IT workers would like to work in another country. The most popular countries for working abroad include Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
