Opel Hungary to roll out 650,000 engines this year

German car manufacturer Opel plans to turn out 650,000 engines at its base in Szentgotthárd this year, the local unitʼs CEO, Grzegorz Buchal, said at a press conference in Budapest today, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
The plant is operating at near full capacity and production could still rise next year, Buchal said.
Last year, 511,000 engines were made at the plant.
The plant supplies 60%-70% of Opel engines for the European market.
Buchal said head count at the plant could rise from 1,600 at present.
The number reportedly includes about 300 contracted laborers.
Opel sales in Hungary came to 5,266 in the first half of the year, giving the brand a 9.4% market share to put it in the number-two position, the firm said. However, in terms of non-corporate sales, it had 35% market share, making it market leader.
This year, Opel sales in Hungary could reach 11,000, said Opel Magyarország managing director Gábor Koncz.
Last year sales at Opel brand dealers came to 10,200.
