A new feed pellet plant was opened in Szabadegyháza by the Austrian and US owned Hungrana yesterday through a HUF 3 billion investment, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

The owners of the firm have invested €230 million in Szabadegyháza over the last ten years, said the managing director of the Hungarian branch of the company, Kálmán Kelemen.

The Szabadegyháza plant’s corn-processing capacity is currently around 3,500 tons a day, up from 400 tons a day in the mid-’90s, and it now processes 15% of Hungarian grown, reported MTI. It is the largest corn-processing plant in Europe, creating one third of the EU’s isoglucose, and the company employs 320 workers to operate it, MTI noted.

Hungrana has acted as a major corn-processing company for over 100 years in Hungary, and processed over 1 mln tons of locally produced corn, according to MTI.
