Hungarian state-owned telecommunications company MVM NET will construct a HUF 1.5 bln next-generation broadband network in the Papa municipal district of northwest Hungary using European Union and state funding, said a resolution in the latest issue of the official government gazette, Magyar Közlöny, Hungarian News Agency MTI reported.

Data transfer speeds of at least 30 Mbps will be available to local communities in the region following the completion of the project, the resolution said.

MVN NET, controlled by the state-owned Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM), purchased a block in the 450MHz frequency band in the spring of 2014, MTI said.

MVM NET’s network will be used primarily for government oriented telecommunications needs and will help improve the development of digital public services in Hungary, MTI noted.
