Hungarian state-owned telco MVM NET laid the cornerstone of a more than HUF 10 bln data center on the outskirts of Budapest today, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The center will house mostly government data and provide data management services for government institutions and state-owned companies, said National Development Ministry state secretary Ákos Kara.

MVM Net CEO Kornél Krénusz said the data center would be the most modern and secure in the region. It is being built next to a sub-station of transmission system operator Mavir, ensuring it will have a secure energy supply, and it meets the top tier security standard of the Uptime Institute, he added.

He said the center would take orders from the private sector as well as the state. The data center will start operating in Q3 2017.
