MVM Hungarowind invests HUF 4.9 bln in solar power plant

MVM Hungarowind, a unit of the state-owned Hungarian Electricity Works, has completed a 10MW solar power plant, one of the largest in Hungary, through an investment of HUF 4.9 billion at the site in Pécs, the company told Hungarian news agency MTI today.

Test operation has already been successfully completed and the new facility is expected to start commercial operation in the first half of March, the company said.

The investment was supported with a HUF 4.2 bln European Union and state grant.

The photovoltaic plant was built on an area formerly used by the Pécs thermal power plant.

The plant was designed and built by a consortium of MVM Ovit and Asianet Hungary, selected at an open public procurement tender, the company said.

MVM Hungarowind said the plant is expected to reduce the countryʼs carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 15,000 tons a year.
