The state-owned Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) has agreed with Swiss energy company Alpiq on the purchase of the latterʼs gas-fueled power plant in the south of Budapest, Hungarian economic daily Világgazdaság reported today.

Alpiq announced in September it was planning to sell the plant, which was built in 2000 and currently is among Hungaryʼs most modern power-generating facilities, in an attempt to reduce its debts, the paper said.

MVM Chairman-CEO Péter Csiba earlier said talks were underway on the purchase of the plant in the capitalʼs Csepel district, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
