Football federation approves ex-NT manager’s report
The Hungarian football federation MLSz has accepted the final report submitted by the national team’s recently resigned manager Sándor Egervári, thus formally also accepting his intent to step down from the post.
Egervári coached the team for 34 games with a tally of 17 victories, 8 draws and 9 defeats. He resigned after two painful defeats suffered by the national team during the final stages of the World Cup qualifiers, firstly 3-0 to Team Romania in Bucharest followed by a historic 8-1 pounding from the Dutch.
MLSz applauded the improvements in the national team’s performance under Egervári but was nonetheless critical, especially of the Bucharest game which even Egervári described at the time as “a massive slap in the face” for Hungarian football and essentially determined that once more, Hungary won’t be playing at an international event.
MLSz president Sándor Csányi stated after Egervári’s statement of his imminent resignation that the next Team Hungary coach would likely be a foreigner and that Team Hungary’s singular goal must be to qualify for the 2016 Eurocup tournament.
