MÁV-Start to launch carriage production this year

Hungarian state-owned railway company MÁV-Start Zrt. is scheduled this year to launch production of an InterCity carriage, which was developed by the company, Hungarian daily Magyar Hírlap reported today.

The first 20 carriages will be produced at the company’s base in Szolnok, central Hungary, and the first carriages are expected to be inaugurated in the second half of 2017, while the last carriages could be put into operation in 2018, MÁV-Start told the paper.

The company anticipates the project will cost approximately HUF 6 billion, the daily reported.

The passenger unit of railway company MÁV has already made two prototypes of the IC+ carriages, Hungarian news agency MTI noted.
