Mátrai Erőmű opens HUF 6.5 bln solar power plant
Hungarian power plant company Mátrai Erőmű today opened a 16MW solar power plant, which is currently Hungary’s largest, in Visonta, northern Hungary, through an investment of HUF 6.5 bln, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
On June 5, when the cornerstone for the plant was laid, chairman of the companyʼs supervisory board Marie-Theres Thiell said half of the investment costs would be covered by a development tax break. Test operations at the plant, comprised of more than 72,000 solar panels on 30 hectares, are expected to start at the end of August and last for one-and-a-half months, Tibor Mikus, managing director of the plantʼs general contractor Wire-Vill, said in June.
Germanyʼs RWE-EnBW own 74% of Mátrai Erőmű and the state-owned Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) has a 24% stake, MTI reported, Mátrai Erőmű is Hungaryʼs largest lignite-fueled power plant and has a capacity of 950 MW.
