Lidl promises HIPA to use more Hungarian suppliers

The Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) and the Hungarian subsidiary of Austrian supermarket chain Lidl signed an agreement yesterday, under which Lidl will include as many Hungarian businesses in its supplier network as possible, according to a press release issued on July 6.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said that, currently, the Lidl chain in Hungary cooperates with more than 400 Hungarian suppliers. He added that last year Lidl Magyarország purchased goods worth HUF 98 bln from Hungarian suppliers, which were not only sold in Hungary but also in its European network. 

Lidl Magyarország operates 164 stores and three logistic bases in the country, employing approximately 3,800 people, Hungarian news agency MTI reported. It had revenue of HUF 283 bln last year, MTI added.
