Lenovo and Flex open server plant in Hungary

In a strategic partnership with Flex, PC manufacturer Lenovo today opened a plant in Hungary’s Sárvár that will specialize in the manufacturing of x86 servers, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.
Lenovo expects the new plant to enable the company faster shipping time, as well as more flexibility when serving its EMEA region customers and partners, the press release noted.
Flex and Lenovo have been strategic partners for seven years and are due to turn out their six millionth PC this December. Apart from manufacturing x86 servers, the Sárvár plant will also be responsible for assembling systems, such as integrated racks ordered for customized usage.
As well as allowing for decreased shipping times, the Hungarian set up also features lower operational costs, which can push down the prices offered for customers and partners, the press statement noted.
“The Hungarian government finds the ICT sector plays an elevated role in the Hungarian economy,” Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said at the inauguration. “The sector provides jobs for 400,000 people in Hungary, with an indirect contribution of 13% to the overall GDP, the third highest in the European Union,” he added. The minister also noted that the new plant is expected to create 250 jobs.
