2023 the Year of Cheeseburgers and Anti-stress Toys at Wolt

Retail

Recently, Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo revealed in an interview that they ate cheeseburgers almost every other day during the filming of their latest movie in Hungary, because they loved the flavors here so much. They are not alone in this passion, as in recent years, cheeseburger has once again become the most ordered food in Hungary, with around half a million orders, according to Wolt's 2023 summary statistics.

In addition to hamburgers, the most popular restaurant categories were pizza, pasta, Hungarian cuisine, and kebabs, with the highest value restaurant order being around half a million forints. While in most cities the food of choice for lunch was a cheeseburger, the people of Debrecen preferred tortillas and gyros. In terms of records, there was a Wolt user who placed a total of 1,257 orders in the year and the one who placed 25 in one day.

The company's own online retail store, Wolt Market, which currently has seven locations, is also growing in popularity, and interest in additional services such as Wolt Drive or Wolt Self-delivery is also picking up, Wolt Hungary says. In the latter two categories, bananas, cucumbers, tomatoes, lemons, red onions, spring onions, and carrots proved to be the best sellers. Wolt users also made sure they were well hydrated, with one in three of their shopping baskets containing mineral water or fizzy drinks.

Stress-free Into the New Year

The past year has been a stressful one for many, as evidenced by the fact that caterpillar-shaped stress relievers were the most popular toys in Wolt's domestic retail range. When it came to buying cosmetics, four of the top five most popular products were various bath bombs and bubble baths. The electronics category was clearly dominated by phone chargers, and in the pet category, Hungarians ordered mainly cat litter and canned lamb-rice dog food through Wolt. Among the flowers bought online, tulips were the favorite.

Since June, Wolt's service has been available around the clock in most of Budapest, allowing users to place their orders at night if they get hungry or run out of party supplies. Between 9 and 11 p.m., the Wolt Market's most popular orders were 2 kg packs of ice, micro-batteries, and of course alcoholic drinks, especially beers. Among wines, dry rosés proved to be the most popular. After midnight, the composition of orders became even more "adult-oriented", with alcohol and sexual accessories, such as condoms becoming the most popular. This is particularly true on Valentine's Day, when the order volume was three times higher than normally for the latter category.
