IKEA to open new Budapest store in spring

Retail

The Hungarian branch of Swedish furniture retail giant IKEA  expects its third store currently under construction to open in the spring, communications director Eszter Varga-Nagy told Hungarian news agency MTI Tuesday. The new store is in the Soroksár neighborhood of southern Pest.

IKEA is planning to add more than 300 staff to its payroll in the country with the opening of the store, Varga-Nagy said, adding that hiring will start in September. She added that currently the store is 70% complete.

The store, which will have a total area of 34,000 square meters, is being realized within the framework of a HUF 16.8 billion investment, Marek Feltl, the managing director of IKEAʼs Hungarian unit, said at the cornerstone-laying ceremony in June. He noted that the firm’s sales in Hungary reached HUF 47 bln in its previous business year ending August 31.
