Daimler to make new compact car exclusively in Hungary
German vehicle maker Daimler AG will manufacture its new Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake compact car exclusively at the company's Hungarian plant in Kecskemét, Mercedes-Benz informed Hungarian news agency MTI yesterday.
Mercedes-Benz Chairman Dieter Zetsche said that the CLA Shooting Brake will be introduced by the end of the year, and sales would start early 2015. He added that by the end of 2014 the Kecskemét plant is planning to produce 145,000 cars.
Zetsche noted that Mercedes sold 173,318 compact models globally in the first four months of the year, an increase of 24.5% as compared to the same period last year.
According to the company, the Mercedes-Benz Kecskemét factory had a revenue of €2.1 bln in 2013, up from €900,000 in 2012, which was the plant's first year of operation. The plant currently provides 3,500 jobs, up from 3,200 in 2013.
