BorgWarner opens engine plant in northwestern Hungary

U.S.-owned automotive industry supplier BorgWarner yesterday inaugurated its engine plant, made possible through an investment of HUF 7 bln, in Oroszlány, northwestern Hungary, state news agency reported yesterday. 

The plant, which initially employs 160 workers, has been moved from Szentlőrinckáta, in eastern Hungary, to Oroszlány, adjacent to the groupʼs turbocharger plant. It mainly produces engines and transfer cases used in all-wheel-drive systems of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, but customers also include Volvo and Volkswagen.

Managing director Béla Csonka said the investment was financed through internal funds. The plant has an area of 4,000 sqm, but the potential exists for expansion. The company plans to increase headcount by 100 over the next 4-5 years, he added.
