Baker & McKenzie was named 2016 European Tax Firm of the Year and 2016 Hungary Tax Firm of the Year at the International Tax Review’s (ITR) European Tax Awards held on May 27 in London, according to a press release issued today. The firm also won five other awards from the prestigious international tax publication, recognized by tax practitioners as a leading journal.

The company acknowledged the awards as recognition of the depth, strength and range of Baker & McKenzieʼs truly international tax practice, worldwide and in Hungary, the statement said.

“We are honored to receive this award, which means that Hungarian tax practitioners recognize the breadth and strength of our tax practice in Budapest. That tax practice works alongside our other practice areas to support the full range of our clientsʼ business needs in Hungary, delivered to the highest international quality standards,” Zoltán Hegymegi-Barakonyi, managing partner of the Firmʼs Budapest office, said in relation to the award.

In addition to receiving the European and Hungarian awards, Baker & McKenzie also won five additional awards, including: Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year in both the U.K. and Luxembourg; Tax Firm of the Year in the Netherlands and Ukraine; and the European Tax Deal of the Year award, the press release said.

To determine the winners, the ITR researched from a variety of sources. Submissions from firms were considered and the editorial staff consulted a large number of tax advisers and lawyers, tax executives and in-house counsel to identify and reward the most ground-breaking work, the press release added.

Established in 1990, the ITR is the leading global publication dedicated to international tax strategy. The European Tax Awards have taken place annually since 2005 and seek to recognize the leading international tax professionals from across Europe, according to the press release.
