Autoliv employees hold two-hour-long strike
As a result of failed negotiations with management regarding wage increases, employees at Autoliv Kft. in Sopronkövesd, western Hungary, held a two-hour warning strike, Hungarian online daily index.hu reported.
The management of Autoliv has proposed a 2.5% wage increase, which employees found humiliating, index.hu said, while workers have asked for a 12% wage increased which the companyʼs management has repeatedly rejected.
The situation has been further aggravated by promises made by previous board members to provide 13th month pay along with other benefits, which the new board has no intention of delivering, online daily hvg.hu reported.
Recently, Autoliv’s reputation took a hit when it was reported that several of its workers became ill on the job. The cause of the illness was a lack of ventilation installed in the factories, which during the summer heat wave resulted in severe oxygen deprivation, hvg.hu added.
Earlier reports suggested that Autoliv was among three automobile companies that trade union Vasas Szakszervezit Szövetség said would go on strike. The identity of the other two companies is still unknown.
