Audi Hungaria to produce greener engines with HUF 32 bln investment

The Hungarian unit of German car manufacturer Audi is planning to undertake a HUF 32 bln development at its plant located in Győr, enabling it to produce greener and more efficient engines, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.
The investment, which is expected to create 380 workplaces, is being supported with a HUF 6 bln subsidy, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said today at the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Hungarian government and the German company.
Economy Minister Mihály Varga said on September 29 that Audi Hungaria’s plant in Győr turned out approximately 2-2.5 million diesel engines that were involved in Volkswagen’s emission scandal in which engines were rigged.
On October 14, Volkswagen published its action plan for the recalling of cars in the scandal and has named the types of the 35,283 cars to be recalled in Hungary, including 6,014 Audis.
Although, Audi Hungaria said on October 9 that it could not comment on the future impact of the situation at Volkswagen group, it continues to achieve its production targets. The company added that it has not stopped hiring and it has no knowledge of production being scaled back at other factories.
