50% of banking system should be in Hungarian hands, says PM

History

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said 50% of Hungary's banking system should be in Hungarian hands, outlining part of the government's new economic model on Tuesday.

Achieving such a goal would be unique in all of Central Europe, Orbán said after consultations with the leaders of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Orbán said his government was building a new economic system and economic players were now feeling it. These are deemed model-building experimental innovations, but the innovators have their own fate: first they are received with surprise, then with incomprehension, then perhaps with interest, and if the innovations work, they are adopted, he added.
