The two new destinations in the Canary Islands come in addition to the already existing service from Budapest to Tenerife, offering a perfect choice of destinations and convenient travel schedule, the press statement said.

Sofia is the third connection by Wizz Air between Hungary and Bulgaria. In the summer season, the airline operates flights to two destinations on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, Bourgas and Varna, while the Sofia service will operate all year round with two weekly flights, according to the statement.

“During the long weekend in Hungary, we have started operating three new flights to great destinations,” said Tamara Vallois, Wizz Air’s Head of Communications. “Fuerteventura and Lanzarote extend our Canary offer and are a perfect choice for families and individual travelers looking to catch some rays of sun, while Sofia is a popular and important connection that will further strengthen business relations between Hungary and Bulgaria, stimulating the tourism and hospitality sectors in the country with more visitors traveling to Budapest on Wizz Air’s low fares.”

The airline, which is considered the de facto national carrier of Hungary, currently operates two Hungarian bases in Budapest and Debrecen with a total of 11 aircraft in the country, employing more than 1,000 people in flight crew, cabin crew, office and support functions. In 2015, Wizz Air carried 2.9 million passengers on its low-fare routes from Budapest, supporting over 2,000 local indirect jobs, according to the press statement.

This year Wizz Air has grown its seat capacity by 27% compared to 2015, which the airline expects to translate into over four million seats on Budapest routes.
