Winter Break Guest Nights Close to 1.6 mln

Around 622,000 travelers spent almost 1.6 million guest nights at tourism accommodations in Hungary over the winter break, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The number of guest nights spent by foreign tourists rose 11% between December 22 and January 7 from the same period a year earlier, information from the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK) shows.

Italians booked 87,000 guest nights during the period and Germans 67,000.

Over 60% of foreign and domestic travelers stayed in hotels over the winter break.

The revenue of tourism accommodations approached HUF 43 billion as spending by domestic guests rose 14% and foreign visitors spent 6% more.

Revenue of catering establishments increased 18% to HUF 69.2 bln, according to till data from the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV).
