Pilots extend Lufthansa strike to Friday
Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), the union representing Lufthansa’s pilots, has extended its strike to Friday for all affected flights within Germany and Europe, while all long-haul flights on this day will operate as scheduled, according to a statement sent to the Budapest Business Journal.
While the final schedule should be published soon, it is likely that four Budapest-Munich and four Budapest-Frankfurt flights will be affected.
“Lufthansa notes that, for completely incomprehensible reasons, pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit has already announced their next walkout during their current strike. The call to strike was announced for Friday, November 25, between 00:01 and 23:59. This time, all short-haul and medium-haul flights within Germany and Europe are affected,” the press statement said.
Lufthansa said that the third consecutive day of strikes hurts business travelers, tourists and commuters, therefore the airline is once more appealing to Vereinigung Cockpit to accept the offer of mediation and return to the bargaining table. “It is the only place where a compromise can be reached,” Lufthansa said.
The strikes started yesterday, with all Budapest flights of Lufthansa canceled yesterday and today. Group airlines Lufthansa Cargo, Eurowings, Germanwings, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Brussels Airlines are not affected by the strike.
