Orbán discusses Budapest’s bid in Rio
Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, held talks with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, in Rio de Janeiro on Friday and discussed Budapestʼs bid to host the 2024 Olympics, the prime minister’s press chief Bertalan Havasi announced.

The IOCʼs Agenda 2020 is “tailored” to Hungary as it encourages medium-sized cities to host the Games, said Orbán, adding that Hungary, in any case, will undertake a number of investments in the fields of transport, tourism and sport over the coming years regardless of its bid to host the Olympics, according to the Hungarian news agency, which quoted him as saying: “The question is not why should we organize the Olympics, but why arenʼt we organizing the Olympics?”
Hungary reportedly received positive feedback in its bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games from the IOCʼs executive board at a meeting in Lausanne in June. The IOC delivered its first assessment after receiving a report by the evaluation committee on the four candidates for the games: Budapest, Rome, Paris and Los Angeles.
The next milestone in the process will come in October, when candidates must submit a second round of documentation. The IOC will decide on the venue of the 2024 Olympic Games in September 2017.
